Google Play Books Update Adds 3D UI, Offline Search
Google is on a roll when it comes to Android app updates today, first getting started with a new Gmail release that brings some of the app’s Ice Cream Sandwich features to Honeycomb users. Now it’s time for Google Play Books to see an update of its own, and just like the Gmail release, this one also brings some new features to users of older devices.
Rather than Honeycomb, this time it’s the Android 2.x users who get to enjoy the change, with Google bringing a new 3D page-turn interface to Froyo and Gingerbread handsets. Other changes are a bit more practical, if less visible; you’ll now be able to search through the text of downloaded titles without needing to be online a the time. You may also notice the ability to set a new homescreen shortcut directly to a specific book, and if you’re a text-to-speech user your phone’s screen will stay on during narration, in case you wanted to follow-along.
